Recap 2008 #5

"Come and Go"
An image made with my brother and my best friend.
We lived down the street from each other in Brooklyn.
We saw each other a zillion times a day and talked even more.
Then, as actors do, he moved to LA.
This image was taken the night before he moved.
His room was empty.
And we processed the move as siblings
that are photographers
and actors
do
He felt it out
I shot pictures
We said nothing
We shed tears
And we created something real
to each of us
forever

Come and Go won the 2008 First Prize from ASMP (American Society of Media Photographers)

Recap 2008 #6

Halloween!

Our 2nd annual impromptu photo booth in Cobble Hill Park was fantastic.

We had repeat visitors from last year.
We had great weather.
And we were witnesses to some fabulously frocked trick-or-treaters.

To see the online galleries, click here.

See you there next year!
Boo Y'all.

Recap 2008 #8

I dig JPG magazine
And not just because they have been good to me

But for their endless pursuits
to provide avenues for exposure
for the fact that they are about images
images
and more
images

I entered Baby Room, Ohio in contest 21 on "Chairs"
And it was 1 of 8 images selected for their blog here and here

I LOVE chairs!

More images from the series "I was here but now I'm gone"
coming soon...

(LA Beach Dude was published in JPG issue 13 in 2007)

5th Avenue Holidays

New York for the Holidays
Embrace the tourist in you
It makes it more enjoyable, really
The time they put into dressing up 5th ave is remarkable
(and the sales?! mmm, girl!)
And the champagne and hot chocolate they serve at Cartier
while you sit on Santa's lap
with a million dollars hugging your neck.
Its nice to take a holiday in your own city.
It can be done in any city, but today, i'm glad my city is
New York City.

As for the Polaroid project...
have been going strong for 5 years now
Only months ago bought my finest Polaroid camera yet
Red faux snake leather lined like so
Its gorgeous, its fragile
Its days are probably as numbered as the film itself
So for 2009, I'll spend a chunk of change
Collect enough film to get me through the year
And finish out with no regrets, some longing,  and many many square shaped moments.
Oh, and of course, a bang.

Recap 2008 #9

One of the best things about photography is the opportunity it gives me to collaborate with those I love, those I respect, and those I find ridiculously talented.

Furniture designer, Andrew Raible owns and designs for standard41, a Brooklyn-based company. We are working to photograph his creations in the open air, amongst the elements, paying a bit of homage to the environment in which the materials live.

Recap 2008 #10

Since the blog is very new
And the year is very old
I thought i'd do a recap
of 10 interesting projects from the year
in no particular order

Starting here...

Jan 08
Footwear Plus magazine
Amagansett
cold models
hungry crew
but light that could make you cry

(Aside from the Magazine Tear Sheets, I'm attaching my Inspiration board...something i love putting together before each shoot...i think it helps illustrate to everyone involved what our vibe is for the day...of course, straying is encouraged and inevitable...but I've found that coloring outside the lines is more effective when you actually know where the lines are!)

Winter Light Fascination...and hallucinations of a Wendy's Veggie Burger

On the road
From Pittsburgh
To Philly
or is it Phillie

Rain, Snow, Sun,
and Rainbow Hallucinations
The light, the wet
so gossamer
that rainbows appeared where they did not exist

but i guess, isnt that where they always exist?

5 hours of driving
in the winter light
unfolding like the doll
inside a doll
inside a doll
inside a doll

happy december to all...
