His shirt said, God is too big to fit into one religion.
Hello!
Thanks for reading our blog...our Honeymoon trip in India/Nepal!
(and by his shirt, i mean the guy who is part of a very important and old Hindu temple at the top of a hill.)
The crazy thing is that each day is so different, and each morning is different from the afternoon, its mentally exhausting! There is so much to take in, sometimes I feel like I leave the house with a helium balloon in my mouth, sucking it all in little by little so that by the end of the day, my head is light and I'm seeing stars. Its exhilerating beyond belief. You know how New York (for some of us) is addicting?! We crave that energy, and here, in the morning, i cant wait to get back out into the streets, to feel it, hear it, smell it, taste it. India!
ok, pictures!
Andrew had an animal photo day...and the tales with andrew and animals are going strong.
1. He pet a stray dog inside a temple. The dog followed us out of the temple, through the entire property, to the car and sat outside the car.
2. He pet a cow on the road. The cow proceeded to lightly tap him with her horns. Caught on film here!
3. He fed the monkeys. holding a peanut in one hand and the bag of peanuts in the other, the monkey was not stupid. The monkey snaked the whole bag out of his hands!
Goat stealing fabric from the market.

He gets this close and you wonder why we have these stories!

Galta was the town we were in...

And here are a few of the faces I met today...

and finally, some perspective...

We are headed to Nepal tomorrow!
Lots of love

Jaipur!
Ok, realization #542, the Indian people are INSANELY gracious! We had a 5am train from Agra to Jaipur, and our driver was late picking us up! And its not like these trains run every hour! We made it to the station with 10 minutes to spare...people helping us as we are running trying to figure out which track our train is and how to get there...only to get on, congratulate ourselves, and then realize when the conductor comes along, that or ticket is printed with the wrong date! A month off! Oy!. The conductor makes us pay full fare for a new ticket, which we do, only to have about half the train basically gang up on the conductor telling him its not fair what he has done. Now this is taking place all in Hindi but we are putting together what is happening! They are all rallying for us for no reason at all. I hate to say, but if that happened to a traveller from India who got overcharged at Grand Central, I cant say I would even NOTICE what the conductor was charging them, let alone have a 10 minute conversation about it! Incredible.
Anyway, amazing day in jaipur....here are some pics! more later. must run. xxx
from Andrew

and a few from me...staying in one spot, i met the most amazing people ever.

Did we really just see the Taj Mahal??
We havent had internet since we left Delhi a few days ago....so today, anxious to update our blog, after visiting the local markets, eating at a local place (telling the driver, PLEASE take us to a local place...not a tourist joint!) which was insanely good...we thought, lets try one of the 5 star hotels and see if they have wireless. Wow. We'll update more about this day later, but sitting here in the most gorgeous courtyard under a full moon, we are a world away from the India we've seen thus far...and we have wireless.
(from A.R.) I can say, without any hesitation and with a bit of pride that we Americans could not ask for a better good will ambassador than Jami Saunders Raible! People are instantly drawn to to the smile and the camera, asking to be photographed. Photos to come.
Aw shucks babe. Thanks. Anyway. Day 3 was Agra...the Taj Mahal...there really are no words...so here is a movie...this was as we were seeing it. Knees shaking, it is more beautiful than I'd even imagined....
oh lafjakldjad fa! the video wont upload! and our wireless is about to expire! ok here's a pic of our taj visit for now! we'll try in Delhi tomorrow...on to the next day. jaipur!

The word 'market' is forever changed
Yesterday and today felt like 2 different cities!
And that is primarily due to our visit to Chandni Chowk, the Spice Market.
The thing is Andrew and I did very little research before we got here as far as what to see/do...so although i really dont think there is anything you can do to prepare yourself for the experience, watching the movie trailer might help a little. But then again, i never watch movie trailers. I prefer the surprise and I prefer to take it as it comes. And that is exactly what we did.
The only thing i knew is that we were going on a rickshaw through the market because no cars were allowed. As we drive down a street that is getting smaller and smaller, our driver finally pulls over, drafts one of the rickshaw drivers standing there, tells us to get in, and we're off. (our driver came with us and sat on the back of the rickshaw which was cute i thought at the time, and later i thought holy *** i'm so glad he's with us).
After 30 seconds in a rickshaw, i turn to our driver (Pracket) and ask, how long is this ride?
"45 minutes," he says. Alrighty then! Again, we could've watched the movie trailer, or heck, even asked anyone if they'd seen the movie! But we didnt. Slowly though, I start to understand..the ride is half the experience. Honestly there are no words to describe it. We'll have to upload some of the movie clips we took. I just dont even know where to start.
But here are some of the amazing things. Despite complete and utter chaos (i think our rickshaw hit someone twice, someone backed into our car once), everyone's temper is so even keeled. No one gets upset. I guess when you are surrounded by people elbow to elbow and you are attempting to work, you are carrying huge bags on your head, you are pulling a cart loaded with i have no idea what, you are fixing up your spice stall to look better than the next, you have to keep some sort of inner peace. And how those guys in that market do it and have done it for centuries is mind blowing and awe inspiring.
After the market, we visited the largest Mosque in India, right at the foot of the market. And it was almost like putting sound blocking headphones on when you're sitting on the subway. All of a sudden everything melted away.
So as not to turn this into a novel, because i could write for days on this...lets get to the pictures!
First, thing in the morning, Andrew got this shot from our car. I love on so many levels!

And I have to post 2 myself because guess what..shocker! I can't decide...

INDIA!!
oh wow. OH WOW! InDiA!
cars, rickshaws, dogs, more dogs, kids, colors, horns, honks, smiles, oh so friendly people, FOOD, (tikka fish tonight made Andrew cry, no seriously), the most amazing flow of traffic ever, rupees, sun...and very soon sleep.
quick traffic visual...imagine park avenue with the 2 way traffic. now take out the median. now take out the traffic lights. now take out the crosswalks. now add motorized rickshaws, motorcycles (why do only the men wear helmets???) , add people crossing. but it flows! kind of like your screen saver when the swirly lines and shapes move everywhere, weaving in and out crossing over and under. its beautiful chaos!! oh yea, chaos!
anyway...we thought we'd try and do a picture a day from each of us....depending on internet connection ,etc...
here's today...from Humayums Tomb in Delhi....
Indian Teenage Boys

and Andrew on the top of the monument taking my picture of the picture! I had no idea..and I love it.

goodnight from India!

deja vu! 3:30am and i'm still packing!
Seems a similar situation occurred about 3 weeks ago! Only instead of packing lots of pretty things like feather hair clips and a red lipstick, i'm packing malaria pills and toilet paper!
sorry the picture updates for feb were scarce...but i think the time in february must actually move faster than it does or has in other months. is that at all possible?! maybe its because i spent most of my waking hours rehashing our wedding!
anyway, honeymoon begins in 90 minutes! no sleep til....newark!
when i spoke to my friend andrea on the phone yesterday, she said why dont you photograph what you are packing? great idea! (plus it helped me get organized...so even better!)
You get a sense of my 3 trips to CVS today here.
so we are heading to an orphanage for 2 weeks in Nepal. So we are bringing a few things for the kids. The problem is we have no idea how many kids there are. I'm hoping 8 toothbrushes is a good thing and not the cause of any tears! But on the bright side, the sticker books and tattoo books have 200 each inside!
ok and now i have to show you because i'm shocked myself..but these 3 bags are all my clothes! Yay! And because of this, pictures we upload during our trip will most likely not show us at our fashion forward best.
Bon Voyage tutti! Happy trails. Speak to you from literally, the other side of the world.
p.s. we'll have email...and wedding season is getting booked! so dont hesitate to email us while we're travelling! We'll definitely get back to you! xxx

anyway, wanted to attach this little movie of my mom's arrival to the hotel...she was the first arrival which basically meant, the weekend had begun..and what better way than to start with mom!

What title do I possibly use for the weekend of a lifetime??!
I cant believe this time last week everything was just beginning. It feels vaguely like it might just have been a dream. Except that there are pictures to prove it happened. And family and friends to vouch for it too!
I'll save my endless play by play for my HUSBAND...haha!...but suffice it to say, it was completely surreal. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to get back to reality, as I'm suffering from a major case of withdrawl right now! I think i have the shakes! Not sure if this is also cured by greasy fries but maybe i should try.
But in the meantime, just wanted to share one polaroid with you...taken on our last day...when everyone had gone..the fantastic weather we had for all 3 days had also gone (!)...but we were left with this..which just seemed to say it all.
