The enLIGHTen Project-Auction is now open!

Many months of work with our nonprofit, Kids of Kathmandu, have come down to this week!

I'm so pleased to announce that our 2nd Annual Fundraising Gala, The enLIGHTen Project, is now on!

We have 17 incredible lighting designers that have created and donated pieces for the auction that is now open! Andrew and I have been visiting their studios over the past couple months and photographing their process. It has been amazingly inspiring and fun to meet these talented people, the very top of the game...from California to New York, between (Idaho) and beyond (New Zealand). See pictures from these visits here!

I have to give a special shout out to my husband too who has been working so hard and was absolutely instrumental to putting this elite list together. (and did a light of his own too which i love!) Its been so much fun to work on this together combining everything we love into one....design + good people+ photography + the kids in Nepal. really, what else is there?! well, there's sleep and balanced meals....but...

We also have opened this year's photo sale to other photographers and invited 4 amazing photographers including New York Times Magazine photographer Alessandra Petlin and well-followed writer and photographer and Green Energy Advisor to Kids of Kathmandu, Kashish Das Shrestha, to share the walls with me. I'm so happy with our lineup and respect the work these photographers have done and continue to do in Nepal.

Visit the new website, buy tickets for May 17th, or bid online for the auction. www.kidsofkathmandu.org

The proceeds of The enLIGHTen Project are going to purchase and install solar panels, batteries, and inverters for the orphanage we support in Nepal. It will also continue to go towards the education of these 49 children to whom we have given our word.

Thanks for all of your support! Hope to see you at the Gala!

Introducing Taible! by Andrew Raible!

It's been a long time in the works..but Andrew's new line of 'Taibles' is out on the town!

Between the months of designing (years in some cases), the building of the prototypes, the photo shoots (!), and the endless discussions, i'm proud of what he's done. It's not really in his personality description to stand on the top of a building and shout it out loud, but it is in mine!! (You gotta meet my mom!) He's such a .....designer!! Oy!!

But in Andrew's case, the New York Times is shouting it out for him today right here!

Wanted to also share some results from our collaborative photo shoots.
Thanks to Annie Nicholas for styling as well!

climbing walls and downward dogs

Jill Malek is a Brooklyn-based graphic designer, whose work spills fantastically onto wallpapers, websites, and now yoga mats! (Sign me up Jill!) One uber-talented friend, we met a year ago over flowing wine at a design store opening and have been bouncing ideas ever since, collaborating when appropriate.

We photographed her apartment for Design Sponge here a few months ago. I find it endlessly fascinating and inspiring to have a peek inside someone else's living space, especially in New York. Don't you?!

Check out little uni!
A fabulously unique baby/kids collection out of Chicago.
Started by my long time friend Andrea Needlman and her partner in crime Julie Crosson.
Both graphic designers, they've created a company this is seriously kickin arse.
Best part is, you can personlize the items...perfect gift? Duh!

(We shot these pictures together in Chicago a little while back and will be shooting new ones soon!)

Recap 2008 #9

One of the best things about photography is the opportunity it gives me to collaborate with those I love, those I respect, and those I find ridiculously talented.

Furniture designer, Andrew Raible owns and designs for standard41, a Brooklyn-based company. We are working to photograph his creations in the open air, amongst the elements, paying a bit of homage to the environment in which the materials live.
